Dala Horse

Jag är inne på att dekorera hemmet men olika prylar, och drömmer om en egen Dalahäst. Det finns en uppsjö av Dalahästar i olika butiker, och det var speciellt trendigt förra sommaren när alla skulle inreda med olika kurbitser. Men, i år, fortfarande gillar jag, och ska snart skaffa min första Dalahäst.

Dalahästen har tillverkats i Dalarna sedan 1600-talet som en biprodukt till traktens möbelsnickeri, eller som en leksak. Vid världsutställningen i New York 1939 fick Dalahästen representera Sverige, och har sedan dess varit en ofta använd symbol för landet. En tre meter hög Dalahäst skickades över till New York och nära 1000 kg små Dalahästar såldes i souvenirbutiken. De vanligaste färgerna för en Dalahäst är rött, blått, vitt, och grönt, men nuförtiden kan man även hitta hästarna i många olika färger.

Dala horse has been manufactured in Dalarna since the 1600s as a by-product of the area's cabinetwork, or as a toy. At the world exhibition in New York in 1939 Dala horse represented Sweden, and has since been a frequently used symbol of the country. A three meter high Dala horse was sent to New York and close to 1000 kg of small Dalahorses were sold in the souvenir shop. The most common colors for a Dala horse are red, blue, white, and green, but nowadays you can find the horses in many different colors.
