i've been following this lovely designer's work for a while now, and i love all her designs! i always want to hear how designers and creative people work they way to fame and success so i decided to have a little chat with lovely ulrika.
ulrikas designs are very colorful and have a special vintage feeling, so i wanted to know where she finds her inspiration and ideas. the designer told me this:
UM: I think there are limitless sources of inspiration all around us in every day life that can inspire us. I am always on the look out for interesting patterns and colour combinations, from the contours and shapes of plants found in the garden, an antique Chinese porcelain cup from the British Museum or pieces of vintage Javanese batik fabric discovered in Bali. At the moment I am still experimenting with different kinds of printing processes and textile surfaces, not yet selling my own textile designs, but I am thoroughly enjoying the process of learning and making objects.
i also wanted to know what are the biggest challenges in starting a company in design branch and what tips she has for new designers.
UM: The biggest challenge when starting out in a design business surely is selling your stuff and making enough for a living. As kind of advice for starting entrepreneurs I would therefore recommend to keep a daytime or part-time job unless your business really grows successful and provides you with enough income to live off.
