before i'm signing off for weekend fun i'm going to give you all this... an interview with a fab london based textile desiger! ENJOY!

i've been following this lovely designer's work for a while now, and i love all her designs! i always want to hear how designers and creative people work they way to fame and success so i decided to have a little chat with lovely ulrika.

ulrikas designs are very colorful and have a special vintage feeling, so i wanted to know where she finds her inspiration and ideas. the designer told me this:

UM: I think there are limitless sources of inspiration all around us in every day life that can inspire us. I am always on the look out for interesting patterns and colour combinations, from the contours and shapes of plants found in the garden, an antique Chinese porcelain cup from the British Museum or pieces of vintage Javanese batik fabric discovered in Bali. At the moment I am still experimenting with different kinds of printing processes and textile surfaces, not yet selling my own textile designs, but I am thoroughly enjoying the process of learning and making objects.

i also wanted to know what are the biggest challenges in starting a company in design branch and what tips she has for new designers.

UM: The biggest challenge when starting out in a design business surely is selling your stuff and making enough for a living. As kind of advice for starting entrepreneurs I would therefore recommend to keep a daytime or part-time job unless your business really grows successful and provides you with enough income to live off.

I like this company's design very much. Spira is driven by 3 women who live in textile capital Borås in Sweden. Spira patterns are both classic colorful and printed in linen. The products are sold through various stores in Sweden and abroad.

Idag besökte jag äntligen Design Passion i stora staden min. Underbart fina designs, och inte en endaste person som var där... Kanske för att det var så otroligt soligt ute och alla satt i parkerna och hejade på Stockholm Marathon. Jag var djupd imponerad av Hanna & Jag -rummet {har skrivit om tjejerna tidigare här}.

Today, I finally visited Design Passion in my big city. Wonderful fine designs, and not a single person who was there ... Perhaps because it was so unbelievably sunny outside and eveyone sat in the parks and watched the Stockholm Marathon. I was deeply impressed by Hanna & Jag's room (the girls have written about earlier here).

Dessutom hade jag vägarna förbi Indiska, och äntligen tittade på Lisa Bengtssons fina produkter. Måste köpa dessa koppar och skålar, alldeles underbara!

Moreover, I went past Indiska, and finally saw Lisa Bengtsson's wonderful products. Must buy these cups and bowls, just lovely!

Trodde inte det var sant, men nu kan man köpa Amy Butlers tyger på Åhléns! Amy gör underbara färglada designs som skulle kunna bli fina tavlor bland annat.

I didn't think it was true, but now one can buy Amy Butler's fabrics in Åhlens! Amy does fantastic colourful designs which could make nice wall decorations for example.

Amy Butler har gjort en ny kollektion för 2009, och dessa fina saker kan ni se på hennes site. Det är uppenbart att färgerna är inne igen... Underbart inför sommarens picnickar i parken. Denna sommar blir det inga långresor för min del, bara kortare till London och Barcelona. Efter sommaren kommer jag att byta jobb!! Det är kul, så jag är upprymd och behöver därmed ingen semester.

Amy Butler has made a new collection for 2009, and these fine things you can see on her site. It is obvious that the colors are again ... Wonderful for summer picnickar in the park. This summer there will be no long trips for my part, just short of London and Barcelona. After the summer, I will change jobs! It's fun, so I am excited and won't need a holiday.

Stockholm furniture fair & 30's party in London

It's such a short time left for more fun things to do now! Only one week to my 30's party in London. We are going to celebrate it in this nice club in the city. It's going to be nice dinner and dancing all night, yeee! It is also only 2 weeks for Stockholm Furniture Fair {4 feb - 8 feb}. Stockholm is celebrating Stockholm Design Week the next week, and the city has alot of fun events to offer. I think my calender will look some like this:

These sofas by Ligne Roset are very nice. They have a certain Scandinavian pure style but also a bit Asian inluence. I need a new sofa, and these inspire me to look for some options.

The Swedish company KNITSBYTHEMETRE is showing it's design at the fair too. I love knitted sweaters and scarves, and this company designs and produces moders knits for interiors. Very sweet!

happy news for fans of finnish design

I just came across very lovely news for all the people who like Finnish textile design. IVANA Helsinki is designing home textiles, and the motives are the same retro style as their camping collection for some years back. Design Finland noticed these news already in october, and told that 'The selection will have bed linnen, binders, notebooks, photo albums, CD case, pen cases etc. with recognizable prints such as Tiira, HEMMA, Ponitarha (Ponygarden), Tent and Butterfly.' The design house is selling the products in co-operation with Finland's largest design furniture store, Vepsäläinen. Nice I think!

His mission is to create original, handcrafted textiles from around the world. Finnish prints are cool

I always like screening new prints and fabrics, and Finnish designers do it very well. As Marimekko is one of the oldest and most traditional ones, there are plenty of new designers coming up. Finns like retro, a lot of prints from 50's to 70's and I think this trend has been going on for a while now. Marimekko's new line for 08-09 features some prints from the 60's. Very sweet!
